Catalyst: Bea Albermann - SDG 3 and 13

23-year-old Bea Albermann is the youngest participant to complete the Catalyst Lab 2019/20. The medical student is intensively engaged in advocacy work regarding the consequences of climate change on human health. The highly committed and active young woman from Winterthur is a WHO delegate of the Swiss Medical Students' Association (swimsa) and Youth Delegate at the Federal Office of Public Health. As co-founder of 'Health For Future Switzerland' and part of the 'Fridays For Future' movement, Bea is committed to raising awareness of the connection between climate change and health: "Few people know that climate change is considered the greatest health challenge of the 21st century. Currently, more people die every year worldwide from the consequences of air pollution than from smoking. And the current system with its environmental consequences is also a great burden on our mental health ,“ says Bea. Looking back, she sees a great impact of the Catalyst Lab in her own personal development: “There is a clear change of perspective within myself. This results in me approaching every interaction in my life with this newly gained knowledge and being more aware about the different levels of dialogue as well as the different dimensions to change. Since September 2019 I find myself diving deeper and bringing my meetings to a heretofore unknown, more impactful level.” The world of social innovation was new to Bea when she participated in the first module of the Catalyst Lab in September 2019. “I wanted to come out of my medical bubble in order to learn from individuals who catalyze change in their fields, to understand their work, to get to know their perspective in order to do my work in a more holistic way and to unlock unknown potential for a healthier future.”

“Only few people know that climate change is considered the greatest health challenge of the 21st century. Currently, more people die every year worldwide from the consequences of air pollution than from smoking. and the current system with its environmental consequences also affects the mental health.”
