The Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs

The 193 member states of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on 25 September 2015, containing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The agenda clearly shows that all objectives are interrelated. You can’t reach the targets individually. Gender equality cannot be achieved without education or as another example climate change, health and urban development are closely linked.”
- Till Berger, Head of the Climate Unit in the Presidential Department (ARE)

The high standard of living and the fact that we typically do not feel the negative consequences of our actions ourselves, tend to complicate important discussions about the SDGs and the necessary systemic change that is essential in Switzerland, too. But it is a matter of fact that we are lagging behind in implementing gender equality at the workplace - Switzerland currently ranks 26th out of 29 OECD countries. Or that we contribute through our consumer behavior to many of the environmental challenges that the 2030 Agenda addresses. Switzerland indeed is at the top when it comes to the spillover index. Accordingly, Switzerland does not perform well in a study by the Bertelsmann Stiftung: only few indicators are green. All others are yellow, orange or even red.

Collaboratio helvetica has therefore set itself the goal of supporting individuals and their initiatives in Switzerland who are committed to the 2030 Agenda and want to promote systemic change.

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”
- Margaret J. Wheatley, Writer and speaker
