Catalyst Spiderweb

Successfully catalysising systemic change requires many abilities, skills, internal and external pre-conditions. In the context of the Catalyst Lab, we have created a first iteration of the Catalyst Spiderweb. It is a tool for self-inquiry and assessment and defines 12 aspects the Catalysts can rate themselves on.

Process

  1. Sit down in a nice and quiet spot

  2. Perhaps meditate or enjoy a few minutes of silence

  3. Look at your spiders web and start wherever your attention goes first

  4. Read the questions, reflect on where you are at when it comes to this aspect, and rate yourself from 0 to 5 (0 being closest to the center of the web, 5 the outmost point) by highlighting the appropriate intersection in the web or colouring it in

  5. Proceed in the same way until you have filled out the first version of your spider web. Add the date.

  6. Come back to it regularly, to reflect on your progress in meeting the pre-conditions

  7. These are collective competencies, meaning that perhaps you alone cannot fulfill all aspects, but when working in a team with other people together you can. Therefore, you may want to share this tool with your team and use it together!

Time and materials:

  • A printed copy of the spiders web, or a hand drawn version

  • A pen

  • 15+ minutes for self-reflection

  • PDF
