How to hire the right people?

Finding new ways to build a winning and committed team

How to find a process that is appreciative and allows to really get to know and understand each others despite limited time available?

Too often, the process of recruiting new employees leads to unsatisfactory results. Both the applicant and those responsible on the company side follow a rigid process which does not allow to actually get to know each other and successfully check whether the position and the applicant match. The application process often resembles a sales event or a process accompanied by psychologically trained specialists, in which the applicant reveals a lot about himself or herself, but does not get much insight into the corporate culture or job.

Vision: An application process is an authentic meeting of people. There is room to be oneself, to show and understand the working methods, needs and limits of both company and applicant. At the end of the application process, it is clear whether the position and the applicant fit together in the long term. It is a constructive, appreciative process. Respect and genuine interest in the other person are in the foreground.

How we do it

Collaboratio helvetica invites the different applicants to a co-creation session - all at the same time. During the session, the methods applied are those which also characterise the everyday work of collaboratio helvetica. Thus, applicants can form an unbiased picture of the way the organisation works.  Applicants are given the opportunity to show themselves, to discuss the challenges of collaboratio helvetica in a relaxed atmosphere and to think about possible solutions. Co-creation leads to the fact that applicants understand the process as an authentic interest in their person, their opinion and their expertise and never perceive it like a test.

As it is a prototype, the hiring process may change again - and again. The iterative element is important for every kind of prototype at collaboratio helvetica.

What we have learned

It is of course important that the position and applicant match - in terms of qualification AND personality. The hiring prototype allows to get to know each other better and prevents the participants to feel as if attending a sales event. Everybody involved in the hiring process enjoyed the time spent together and all the inspiring conversations. It is basically all about meeting new people with similar values, passions and concerns. Still, the time limitation remains a challenge in the hiring process prototype. Plus, it is crucial to define the competencies needed well in advance and as detailed as possible in order to understand during the process if applicants really meet the needs.
