Biodiversity Lab by Brainforest: Systems mapping workshop

Collaboratio helvetica designed and facilitated an international and multilingual workshop for the Biodiversity Lab, a project by the Swiss association Brainforest. The workshop aimed at mapping the systems that contribute to biodiversity loss in the Peruvian Amazon to allow for a deeper understanding of the complexity of the issue, recognise the involved sectors and identify possible leverage points for developing impactful solutions.

The workshop took place online on April 19, 2023, with >40 participants representing a wide range of stakeholder groups from different parts of Europe and South America. The mapped themes included governance, livelihood, markets, finance, and knowledge, and allowed for the identification of 6 leverage points. Based on these findings, Brainforest announced to focus on the leverage point “lack of monitoring capabilities” during the next period of venture-building processes.

"Collaboratio helvetica played a crucial role in this collaborative workshop. Their expertise in designing and facilitating such sessions ensured that the complexity of the system was understood, diverse voices were heard, and an environment encouraging innovation and problem-solving was created.”

The public report provides insights into how the mapped systems drive biodiversity loss in the Peruvian Amazon. It sets the stage for identifying and implementing different strategies that address the root causes of biodiversity loss. By addressing the identified leverage points, Brainforest aims to make a significant positive impact on biodiversity preservation and regeneration in forests.
